Hackney to West Ham Olympic Tunnel
Working on the first of the tunnels that will carry power lines underneath Londonís Olympic Park, KMCO Group were awarded the contract from Prysmian for the Splicing and Testing of all optical fibre cables that ran through that tunnel.
London Olympics
These fibre optic cables will have specific instructions to carry out individual purposes.
The first cable is Low smoke 24 fibre (Internal/External) consisting of 20 Multi-Mode fibres and 4 single mode fibres. This will carry communications between Sub-stations on the Energis (Cable & Wireless) network. Cable length approx. 6.5km.
The second cable is a Low Smoke 4 Fibre (Internal/External) consisting of 4 Multi-Mode fibres. These will act as the Distributed Thermal Sensor (DTS) which when attached to the 400KV Power cable will measure the intensity of temperature in a set location.
The third cable as in the second is a Low Smoke (Internal/External) 4 Fibre cable consisting again of 4 Multi-Mode fibres. It will have a dual purpose the first being to enable continual Partial Discharge (PD) monitoring of signals between Power Stations.
KMCO Group are proud to be part of this project and will help to insure that the 2012 London Olympic Games were a success.
