SA001 Overhead Safety – 3 Days

This accreditation has been developed to ensure that those who work on ladders and wooden poles do so safely following all policies, procedures, and safe working practices. This accreditation covers three modules: Overhead Safety, Pole Checking and Joint User Poles.

It provides learners with the skills and knowledge of the hazards and potential risks involved in working safely on ladders and wooden poles in a telecommunications environment. This accreditation does not cover roof top working.

SA001R Overhead Safety Refresher – 1 Day

This accreditation allows learners to refresh and re-test their knowledge, skills and understanding of dangers associated with overhead activities and the safety precautions required while working on ladders and wooden poles.

The overall objective of this accreditation is to ensure that learners involved in working on ladders and poles can refresh their knowledge and skills and be accredited to industry and national standards. This accreditation is aimed at those working on ladders and wooden poles in a telecommunications environment and does not cover roof top working.

SA001A Overhead Safety Awareness – 1 and a Half Days

This accreditation SA001A covers three modules:

  • Ladder safety
  • Pole checking and climbing
  • Joint user poles

It provides learners with the knowledge of hazards and potential risks involved in working safely on ladders and wooden poles in a telecommunications environment. It also helps learners’ awareness of compliance with health and safety legislation. The accreditation tests learners’ knowledge of dangers associated with these works and the safety precautions required while working on ladders and wooden poles.

This accreditation ensures that supervisors and planners who require an awareness of ladders and poles safety are accredited to Industry and National Occupational Standard (NOS). This accreditation is aimed at supervisors and planners working in a telecommunications environment. This accreditation does not cover roof top working. The purpose of this accreditation guide is to also set out the quality assurance arrangements for the assessment and verification of Smart Awards telecommunications programmes and to provide centres with a consistent approach to assessment.

SA002 Underground Safety – 1 Day

This accreditation covers two modules: Gas Testing and Cover Lifting. Learners are provided with the knowledge and skills to identify the hazards and potential risks involved in working safely on or in proximity to underground structures and operational buildings. This accreditation particularly is aimed at those individuals who undertake work in a telecommunication (or similar utility) environment. It also enables learners to gain knowledge of compliance with Health and Safety legislation. This accreditation tests learners’ knowledge, skills and understanding of dangers associated with these works and the safety precautions required while working in the underground network.

This accreditation is aimed at those gas testing and cover liftings in a telecommunications environment. This accreditation does not cover entering a confined space.

SA002A Underground Safety Awareness – Half Day

This accreditation is one mandatory unit which covers gas testing and cover lifting. Learners are provided with the knowledge and understanding to identify an awareness of the hazards and potential risks involved in working safely on or in proximity to underground structures and operational buildings. This accreditation particularly is aimed at supervisors and planners who work in a telecommunication (or similar utility) environment. It also enables learners to gain knowledge of compliance with Health and Safety legislation.

This accreditation tests learners’ knowledge and understanding of dangers associated with these works and the safety precautions required while working in the underground network. This accreditation requires that individuals involved in gas testing in the network are suitably assessed and accredited to industry and national standards. They must also hold the appropriate Street Works Card in line with the requirements of New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) 1991. The purpose of this accreditation guide is to also set out the quality assurance arrangements for the assessment and verification of Smart Awards telecommunications programmes and to provide centres with a consistent approach to assessment.

SA006 Safe Working in Civils – 1 and a Half Days

This accreditation provides basic knowledge regarding legislation and dangers associated with safe working in a utility construction environment. Learners are provided with the knowledge to understand the hazards and potential risk associated with civils works in utilities environment. This accreditation particularly is aimed at those individuals who undertake work in a telecommunication (or similar utility/construction) environment. It also enables learners to gain knowledge of compliance with Health and Safety legislation. This accreditation tests learners’ knowledge and understanding of dangers associated with these works and the safety precautions required while working in civils. This accreditation ensures that individuals working in the civils aspects of network construction and maintenance are suitably trained and understand the dangers of working in this environment. To comply with legislation, at least one person on site must also hold the appropriate Street Works Card in line with the requirements of New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA)1991. This accreditation comprises of 3 modules, Module 1: Safe Working in Civils; Module 2 Gas Testing; Module 3 Cover Lifting.

Tetra Leaning Ladder and Flat-Roof Candidate Accreditation – 1 Day

This accreditation sets out the requirements for implementing the safe working practices for Leaning Ladder & Flat Roof Accreditation to candidates were works is undertaken in dwellings, including multi occupancy units. It is intended that during this training all learners will gain an understanding of the hazards and potential risks of leaning ladders and flat roof access, whilst developing the required knowledge to implement safe working methods via the use of fall protection equipment, that will enable these systems to be used safely.

S5 PIA Pole Survey – 1 Day

This accreditation is designed to assess delegates on their ability to understand the Physical Infrastructure Access (PIA) requirements of Communication Providers (CP). They will then need to be able to demonstrate competency in completing a pole survey.
